Like Picasso, Zenna feels the healing and relaxing powers of creating art. Also like Picasso, Zenna enjoys creating visual art in a large variety of media.
Not many moons go by when you won’t find Zenna creating in a variety of media including mosaics, clay sculptures, mixed-media painting and fused glass.”I always have about 12 different works going at the same time…when I tire of working on one then I go to the next!”
Before her move to Sedona in 2003, Zenna was a professional performing artist on the island of Maui. When her dancing career took a halt due to an injury, she was left with a lot of bridled creative energy.
“Sedona is a great place to live when one needs to figure out what to do with their creative energy.”
Zenna is grateful for the Sedona Arts Center where she studied with some terrific masters who left lasting impressions on her expressions and to the City of Sedona for awarding her an emerging artist grant many years ago.
Most of her work is intuitive in nature and she creates art for others in hopes of bringing light, joy, happiness and color into their lives. “I never know what I am going to create when I first get started on a painting or a sculpture…I allow the art to become itself with my guidance.”
Zenna created a pair of angel javelinas that were on display at Piggy Park as part of the Javelinas on Parade. Her pair of javelina sold at auction and is now in private collection and remembered in a coffee table book. Zenna has helped lead children and adults down the path of creativity by doing volunteer work with Art For Kids, Inc in Sedona and Cornville and leading art groups for women in recovery in the Verde Valley. She has also co-created murals with children in a variety of settings including schools, the Verde Valley Humane Society and the Sedona Arts Center.
“Many of my creations are in private collection in the USA and Canada and it makes my heart smile to think that they are creating beauty on a wall or in a room at someone’s home or place of business.”
Zenna has done many exhibitions and regularly shows her work at the Sedona Art Supply, Sedona Giclee and Gallery and in faculty/member shows at the Sedona Arts Center.
