Meet the Artist- B.C. Detwiler
B.C. Detwiler (aka Beth Courtright-Detwiler) is a symbolist artist who resides in the Verde Valley of Northern AZ.of Northern AZ.of Northern AZ. Her work is described as investigative and intuitive, abstract and allegorical. She works in a variety of media to produce artworks which depict the soul’s search for meaning and significance; origin and departure.
Her subject matter is ethereal, yet earthly…as are the objects and figures depicted in her sculpture and paintings. She is influenced by artworks of the Ancient Near East, Illuminated Manuscripts, Santos of the South West, and Modern Artists of the Early 20th Century.Detwiler has a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art from Ohio State University and is best known for her cartoon entitled “The Word is…”published in Art in Progress. She currently creates and teaches from her working studio/gallery located in the Old Jerome High School, in the historic mining ghost town of Jerome, A.Z
