The Next SIDEWAYS?
.........Let the REVIEWS do the Talking
Wall Street Journal
by Jim Fusilli
"As "Blood into Wine" makes clear, the 45-year-old Mr. Keenan isn't a musical celebrity who lent his name to a product. He gets down into the soil to plant and destem vines and pick grapes. He's learned oenology with painstaking deliberation." More

"....We also learn quite a bit about making wine. Glomski shares Keenan's passion and then some, though in a less intense way; he's as soft-spoken as the onstage version of Keenan is aggressive. They make a good pair." More

"The film flits between serious insight into the history of vineyard cultivation and the intricacies of turning a passion for sustainable agriculture and wine into a functional business (provided by Eric Glomski, Keenan’s mentor and business partner), and self-mockery, via a fake talk-show interview with two hostile hosts..." Film Critic
by Alexander Zalben
"Like a rock 'n roll version of Sideways, Blood Into Wine flits from beat to beat, creating a hypnotic, enthralling, and most of all fun documentary out of celebrity winemaker Maynard James Keenan (lead singer of Tool and A Perfect Circle), and his attempts to bring respect to the Northern Arizona wine country." “…Keenan, along with his wine-making partner Eric Glomski, is at the center of the documentary, a freewheeling but thoughtful mix of wine primer, underdog story, buddy picture, and sketch comedy. The movie is fun and gently didactic, and thankfully it engages in little idolatry." More

"Nothing comes easy! Not only does Maynard mention this towards the end of the film but you really do experience the fact that there’s immense passion involved… and it’s not like they’re trying to hide the fact that it’s a business either – figures are mentioned and it’s not Monopoly money!" More

"Keenan is serious about his winemaking, teaming up with winemaker Eric Glomski to start producing wines at AZ Stronghold Vineyards about 50 miles southwest of Flagstaff." More

"Dry, complex and provocative. These are words that not only describe interesting wine, but also the new film "Blood into Wine," and its central figure Maynard James Keenan, that screened recently at the 16th Annual Sedona Film Festival." More
Examiner
by Serene Dominic
"As it turns out, the stone-faced rock icon has great comedic deadpan and throughout the movie he is subjected to a staged interview with Tim Heidecker & Eric Wareheim from the Adult Swim program Tim and Eric Awesome Show. The comedy duo parody the typical bored and uninformed interviewers Keenan no doubt suffers through daily in real life." More

"Directors Ryan Page and Chris Pomerenke document Keenan and Glomski's adventures through the course of their 09's wine season, and it turns out to be a hilarious and heartfelt journey unlike anything we've ever seen. And it offers a rare peak into Maynard's life. Despite Keenan's dislike of being interviewed, which is made quite apparent by the film, the singer-songwriter still allowed us some face time to chat about the film." More

"...the combination of Keenan's dry wit, Glomski's down-to-earth enthusiasm for winemaking, and the challenge of going up against the California wine industry (have you heard of any famous Arizona wines lately?) gives the film a mixture of history, intellect, geography, science, business, geology, and personal growth woven into a documentary of immense appeal."
