Barbara Donahue, a plein air oil painter is a founding member of Arizona Plein Air Painters as well as the owner of Wind Dancer Fine Art Gallery in Old Town Cottonwood. She exhibits at Sedona Art Center and participates in shows all over the Western United States. She is also a member of Colorado Plein Air Painters and Oil Painters of America.
Barbara received her art education at ASU with a degree in fine art and attended Scottsdale Artists School as well as taking many workshops with other painters.
Her work reflects her love of nature and the Southwest. “There is beauty surrounding us from the mountains to the deserts.” The vivid colors in her landscapes mimic the surroundings of her home in Cornville. “I love to observe the way light dances across nature and I try to reflect that in my work.”
Painting the wine barrels was a challenge stated Barbara. “I usually paint on canvas and the barrels were very large and round which was a design challenge” “I also had to use house paint and acrylic paints which is not my usual medium but I thoroughly enjoyed the process.” Her barrels may be viewed at Dead Horse State Park and in front of the Cottonwood Chamber of Commerce.
Barbara’s paintings are collected world wide and are in many permanent collections throughout the United States. She currently resides on a small ranch in Cornville, AZ with her husband, horses, cattle and chickens.
