Deborah lives in the green Verde Valley of northern Arizona with her husband Terry and Old English sheepdog Wiley. Born in North Carolina and raised in Virginia, attended the college of Virginia Tech with a degree in Art Education. Deborah went on to teaching art in the elementary schools in Northern Virginia for 15 years before retiring recently and moving to the Verde Valley.
Her first painting experience was painting her pet white rabbit with red house paint at a very early age. The rabbit did live, but was found a new home! Of course art was her favorite subject throughout her school years. Growing up not having many toys she loved exploring and playing in the creek and woods in her backyard for hours on end. This is how her love of nature developed.
This greatly influenced her style of painting, sculpture, and jewelry making. Deborah likes to use the materials she has on hand or finds, incorporating colors from nature and earth tones. Just a step away from folk art, but more abstract. It wasn’t until 2011 that she began her dream to create. Many of her works include watercolor and acrylic mixed media landscapes and Native American influenced jewelry in both copper and silver precious metal clay.
Deborah is a member of NAWS and the Verde Valley Art Association. She has exhibited at the Manheim Gallery in Cottonwood as well as participated in the painting of the Verde Valley Wine Barrels.
